Using Chatbots to Increase Vaccine Uptake in Kenya and Nigeria

July 18, 2022

Vaccination uptake is critical to control COVID-19 spread across the world. The spread of COVID-19 vaccine misinformation can contribute to vaccine hesitancy and, as a result, jeopardize the ability to achieve herd immunity and save lives. This concern is particularly important in sub-Saharan Africa, where online populations are expanding rapidly and social media is one of the channels for sharing false information.

Molly Offer-Westort and Leah Rosenzweig from the University of Chicago partnered with Busara to understand the barriers to vaccination and attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccines in East and West Africa.  The study was designed to evaluate experimental interventions designed to increase COVID-19 vaccine acceptance in Kenya and Nigeria, as well as decrease sharing of false COVID-19 vaccine misinformation.

The results of their research will be discussed during a webinar on Monday, July 18th 2022 from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm EAT/ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm WAT / 9:00 am – 10:00 am EST.
